Aerial roots

The roots a climbing aroid puts out above the soil, and what they are gripping.

Thin, radiating stems with magenta and green bracts photographed from directly above. Twisted woody vines with fine aerial rootlets hanging down. The climbing stem of a Monstera adansonii pressed against a sphagnum-filled mesh pole, petioles branching off it and a brown aerial root pushing into the moss. A close view of a Monstera adansonii stem on its moss pole, several brown aerial roots emerging at the nodes and growing into the sphagnum behind the mesh. A close view of the base of a Philodendron 'Florida Ghost', where pale green petioles meet the soil and a brown aerial root runs down into the perlite-flecked mix. The base of a Philodendron 'Florida Ghost' tied to a bamboo stake with a green velcro strap, petioles rising in every direction from the crown, aerial roots visible above the soil.
