Roots and stems

The part of a plant below and behind the leaf everyone photographs.

The whole Alocasia azlanii — two bronze-green leaves with pink veins — leaning out over the rim of a stemmed glass vessel filled with clay pebbles, the glass below them green with moss. The base of a variegated Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek' Variegata in a glass vessel of expanded clay pebbles, pale petioles rising from the corm with the papery remains of an old sheath still attached. Pale green petioles of a variegated Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek' Variegata rising out of expanded clay pebbles in a glass pot, a dried sheath still wrapped around the corm at the centre. Vertical bamboo culms show weathered segments marked by nodes, covered with moss and algae. Twisted woody vines with fine aerial rootlets hanging down. The base of a Monstera albo, pale variegated petioles rising from bark mix with a thick aerial root running down into it. Roots pressed against the clear plastic sleeve of a moss pole, threading through the damp sphagnum inside. Woody aerial roots and a thick stem of a Monstera deliciosa in close focus, a room out of focus behind. The woody tangled stems and aerial roots of a Monstera deliciosa rising from a pot of gritty mix. Roots and moss visible through the clear plastic sleeve of a moss pole, held on with green ties. A close view of the base of a Philodendron 'Florida Ghost', where pale green petioles meet the soil and a brown aerial root runs down into the perlite-flecked mix. The base of a Philodendron 'Florida Ghost' tied to a bamboo stake with a green velcro strap, petioles rising in every direction from the crown, aerial roots visible above the soil. The base of a Thai Constellation, thick variegated petioles rising out of dark potting mix beside a moss pole.
